How to Make a DIY Easter Wreath

One of the great things about Easter decorations is that many don’t need to be taken down right after the holiday. With bright purples, pinks, greens and blues, they also make the perfect spring décor! The DIY Easter wreath in today’s post is no exception. It’s filled with all things spring, including butterflies, bunnies, eggs and florals. Follow the instructions for this adorable and BRIGHT Easter decoration that will brighten up your door just in time for the Easter Bunny – and spring – to arrive.

If you LOVE filler – floral and greenery – this wreath is definitely for you! Not only does it create a wow factor and help fill in the wreath, it also helps hide the pipe cleaners that are holding the entire wreath together.

How to Make an Easter Wreath with Florals

Follow these step-by-step instructions to make your own Easter wreath for spring. To watch me make this wreath using these instructions, watch the tutorial video toward the end of this post.

Step 1: Attach pipe cleaners

Evenly space out your pipe cleaners and stick them through a couple of twigs of the Easter wreath and twist a couple times. They will be used to hold your egg garland in place on top of the wreath.

Step 2: Attach the Easter egg garland

Stick the end of your garland through the sticks of the wreath, then lay the garland around the wreath, between the arms of the pipe cleaners. Twist the pipe cleaners twice around the garland stem to secure it to the wreath and make sure the garland stays in a circle. Cut the garland once you make it around the wreath. You don’t want to double up on the garland as since the eggs are a lot.

Step 3: Add floral garland

In the same way as you did with the Easter egg garland, lay the floral garland on the top of the wreath, between the pip cleaner arms. You’re going to lay the garland stem on the outside of the egg garland and then, a second time around, on the inside of the egg garland. Make sure the pip cleaner is going around just the spine of the garland, not the branches.

Step 4: Make and attach your Easter bows

Lay your thinner ribbon on top of the wider one. Measure the ribbon so you have 6-inch tails and 5-inch loops. Pinch, twist and loop the ribbons to make the bow. Place the bow in the middle of the same pipe cleaners that secured the garland. Twist the pip cleaner around the center of the bow and cut off the excess pipe cleaner. Pull apart the ribbons and dovetail the ends by folding them in half, cutting on the fold at a diagonal angle towards the edge.

Attach bows to every other twist tie – making 5 bows. The twist ties not holding bows can be tied off and the excess pipe cut off.

Step 5: Add filler florals

Cut your floral bushes into separate flower stems. Starting with the lighter color – I used yellow – dip each stem into the glue pot and insert them into the grapevine to the right of each bow, toward the middle of the grapevine stem. Then, insert the darker color filler – purple in my wreath – in the same area toward the outside of the wreath.

Step 6: Add a second and third round of filler

Just as you did with the first round of filler, dip each darker stem into the glue pot and insert it into the grapevine – this time, toward the middle of the wreath stem.

Then, take your third filler color – I used blue – and insert it into the grapevine, just to the left of the bows toward the outside. After inserting those around the wreath, insert more filler to the right of the bows toward the inside of the wreath.

Make sure as you insert stems, you keep everything looking balanced.

Step 7: Add some greenery filler

Cut your greenery bush into 8 separate stems, then glue and insert them throughout the outside of the wreath between the lighter and darker florals and where you still see some pipe cleaner peeking through.

Step 8: Finish with a butterfly spray

Cut your spray into separate stems, then glue and insert each butterfly stem into the wreath. First, you’ll place them to the right of the bow, on the outside of the wreath. After inserting all of the first-round butterflies, insert the second round to the right of the bow and toward the inside of the wreath.

Step 9: Use extra pieces to fill any spaces

Use extra pieces of your florals or greenery to fill any existing open spaces and balance the wreath.
